Manifestations WIP
Manifestations is an urban fantasy set in modern day on the West Coast of the United States. The work-in-progress explores how our beliefs make us human in a world that necessitates near constant change of our ideologies.Gods have always existed among humans, called into being by the worship of what they symbolize to the human experience. An act of love or a lifetime of loyal service can bring a god into an approximately mortal form, anchoring them to the human paragon of such vice or virtue. Through that relationship, the god is able to experience this physical plane, and in return for living as a representation of the god's will, the human enjoys an extended lifetime doing what they love.But Macy's father isn't like other acolytes. Despite his patron Gio caring deeply for him, the bond seems poisoned at the roots. Macy has abandoned any personal life direction to return home and care for her ailing father, but he continues to decline without any cause that modern medicine can find.Macy realizes her father's death will mean the responsibility of Gio's patronage will transfer to her, trapping her forever in the same cycle she saw her father deteriorate within. The inevitable course of her life seems sealed when a handsome deity comes to town to see her father's Transference of bond and energy occurs as scheduled, so as not to upset Death's designs.Macy finds she is unwilling to succumb to the inevitable though, setting into motion a series of events that will force her to conquer her fears, wrestle through the inertia of expectations, and chart her own course in this world.
Dark Designs WIP
Dark Designs is a dark romance co-written with my partner, husband and best friend.Florence Jaqueline Ren was among the brightest rising stars in her generation. A highly talented witch graduating at the top of her class, she finished University early to be hired by the leading corporation in Renewable Magical Energy. However, when her research unlocked vast new stores of magical power at a terribly unethical cost, she balked at the application of her discoveries for profit. Stripped of everything under accusations of deviant magical practices, then subjugated to the testing of her own research, she has been left for observation stranded in the desert wastes.Powerless, frustrated and at the frayed edges of survival, Ren summons a demon with visions of hellfire and bloodthirsty monstrosities. Instead she gets Svadilfariac the Builder, a demon as distractible as he is disinterested in tearing apart humans or stealing their souls. Trapped for a few thousand years in a prison of his own making, Svad entertains the witch's proposal.If he helps Ren destroy the corporation before they can leverage her research for unspeakable harm, she will give herself body and soul to him once the business is done.Of course, keeping things strictly business presents challenges when they are inexplicably drawn together, realizing Ren's deviance has trapped a shard of Svad's own magic inside her, demanding to be reunited with the whole by whatever means necessary.
